    Hello Aisha,

I would like to apologise for my over-zealous Right wing bretheren. I had only intended to post a polite note attempting to ask that you re-examine your position that Facism is somehow a "Right wing" phenomena. But was surprised to see that there was such an uncivil tone in the backlash you're getting over the statments that you made on Fox.

I can only explain it by saying we feel under attact ourselves and some of us do not have the understanding that you very well may not be promoting these misconceptions through any intent of malice , but have probably been convinced youself of these things through the same propaganda that I recieved in the public education system.

You said you were'nt a truck driver or a coal miner. Neither am I, but even they can have opinions change over time. I hope that you are willing to examine the truth about Facism and Socialism and address that in your next public forum on the topic.

I would LOVE to see you come to a new understanding of our political history as well as the history of European Socialist Dictatorships... ( i.e. Hitler and Mussolini as National Socialists Nazi's in Italy and Germany)

Or at least articulate a substantial argument how these facts are somehow not in play regarding the recent intention by the White House to Socialize much of the United States private industry and Government.

Please let us know your thoughts after you have looked more deeply into this.

    Thanks,

    Doug

Dear Doug, I want you to know how much I appreciate your thoughtful and courteous post. As you can see, we seem to have reached a state of social decay in our country where we can no longer have a civil discourse about issues on which we disagree. Instead people seem to feel it's better to hurl invective and insult, rather than talk things out. To your point about having looked more deeply into the subject, I have given it extensive thought (my undergraduate degree is in Political Science from Dartmouth); I don't see my take on the subject as misconception or propaganda-based thinking; Fascism is widely held by most political scientists to lie on the far-right side of the political and philosophical spectrum. I have actually had some very interesting and lengthy exchanges with conservative bloggers on this subject. If you've got time, check out my exchange with The Riggsby Report (see link below). Scroll down to see our dialogue. I really enjoyed exchanging ideas with Dan Riggsby, and the conversation was civil, respectful and elevated: http://www.riggsbyreport.com/2010/04/were-the-nazis-right-wing-conservatives/ I will also say, Doug, that the reason I made those statements is that I believe that when people use inflammatory invective like "Fascist" and "Nazi" to describe our President, not only are they inaccurate, but they demean the country and the office of the POTUS. You may disagree with the current President and his ideas for the direction of our country, as is our right as Americans. But name-calling is immature; it isn't intended to solve problems, but rather to incite fear and hysteria. It is disingenuous, hinders vigorous public debate, inflames paranoia and impedes progress. One final thing: the reason I said I was not a coal miner or a truck driver is that I was trying to illustrate that most Americans work very hard and face monumental challenges in their everyday struggle trying to make ends meet. If I, with my good fortune and resources, struggled to understand my 500-page mortgage document, the idea that the average working class person should be criticized for entering into a mortgage agreement they don't fully understand was classist and unrealistic. I was arguing FOR the coal miner and the truck driver, not against. I want to thank you again for your thoughtful, civil post. Feel free, after reading the Riggsby Report post, to offer your thoughts. Civil, respectful public discourse is at the heart of the strength of our republic. Thank god there are still people like you, Doug, who believe in it.

    Dear Aisha,

I am writing to you to ask for your advice as a beautiful woman. I was rap;ed about three years ago and stopped taking as good of care of myself for some time after. I had been very careful with self care and was a beautiful woman like you, particularly beautiful in my late twenties and through my thirties until the time of the rape. I tried taking antidepressants for a couple of months after the rape for help with recovery and experienced weight gain, loss of menstruation and bad effects on my skin and some other side effect. I stopped taking the medication with my doctor acknowledging that I was doing well.

Just after this period, I went for a few electrolysis treatments for removal of some fine hair on my lip and chin that bothered me. The woman scarred my face and I have now had to go to the dermatologist for procedure to correct the scarring. They are recommending laser procedure that is expensive to correct the scarring, and I have already had to pay for chemical peel. I had to use my saving for rent and have been very poor since the rape. I will have to try to save the money for the laser procedure and, in the meantime, am having to deal with having scarring on my face as though I had acne scars. I am still trying to lose the weight I gained after the rape on the medication. What would you do?

Aisha, hi -- science fiction convention coming up, making my usual lurking check of this site, and I have to say I'm blown away by this idea of your directing "Committed." Recycling is rough around here (Pittsburgh) but there is one company (Abitibi) with sites in the neighborhood. Count me as one potential audience member who you've got all intrigued. Later, Bill

Aisha, I hope you're getting some mileage out of the 4th of July weekend. It's kind of an interesting time for me -- my oldest friend got a novel published, it's a small independent press but hey, it's still a softback, and now in true science fiction wonkishness we're pursuing a novel about a supernova. Anyhow, something about the season made me think of you. Still hoping you can make your way through Pittsburgh sometime. Cheers, Bill

Aisha, hi. I could kick myself for having been away from here for over a month. What I miss! If it's any consolation, I'm bumping into this sort of heated discussion myself, it seems to be getting everywhere.

In fact, this sort of discussion (or breakdown thereof) weirdly inspired me recently. I was watching the History Channel talk about post-9/11 conspiracy theories, and that got me to thinking: maybe the last half hour of "Contact" could have been salvaged.

Yeah, it doesn't help that the aliens condescend to us with an obviously fake David Morse (a Morse code, perhaps?), but that's not the point. What kicked me about the ending was that it was basically Earth declaring a self-quarantine, that we'll build this big amazing machine only to buy James Woods' off-the-cuff excuse for why it probably didn't work.

But now I'm thinking, maybe the world wouldn't be clear on that machine anyway. Maybe there would be a kind of a self-quarantine, but of a kind we've already been seeing. A few million people would say "It's a plot by the Jews," while millions of others would go overboard and expect it to cough up Earth abductees of old like at the end of "Close Encounters," and if not, why not!?!? Surely a conspiracy there. On and on like that, rather silly half-truths and lies everywhere.

That kind of self-quarantining, I think I could buy. At least it would be a bit funny, which can't hurt.

I'll try and be back more regularly. Take care, grrrl.

    Hey Aisha,
Great show last night. I hope you enjoyed the gift box, but you must have noticed to card to someone else in the box. The post office won't ship alcohol through the system. It occurred to me that I had it in the car and figured you'd enjoy it now and I could hand deliver a new one to the original intended when I make the trek to Iowa this month.
So please don't think I'm careless or cheap, just wanted to say thanks and show you some beer/wine love!

    Cheers

Hey there, it was great to meet you in Jacksonville, FL! I thoroughly enjoyed the show to say the least, I probably gained some new smile lines that night lol, but they were well worth it. Anyway, I don't have much to say but hello and thanks for making the trek south of the Mason Dixon line to the city of "fathair". Hope you come back this way again, you're hilarious!

    Hello Aisha,
I'm a huge fan of yours since your scene on friends.
I think you should play Michelle Obama, you are the only one who can pull out her role, I'm sure President Obama will agree. So whenever you hear about an audition about the first family, I think you should apply for the role and mark my words you will get the part.

Sorry you couldn't make it to Nashville, though I understand why. It was underwater! Still, I hope you can make it back to this area sometime. I'm actually in the Memphis area, and it would be great to see you here.
Good luck with everything. Oh, by the way, ARCHER is f**king hilarious, and they have you in some great outfits, too.

Aisha! I love your stand up, nerdiness, and you on Archer and hot you've got it all. I listened to the Podcast on Adam Carolla's show with you, Parnell, and Adam Reed where you hosted. That was fantastic btw. Hope this isn't a lame question but Adam Reed said they'd be looking for writers this season, any idea if they're accepting spec scripts? Any idea how someone who's written spec scripts for their favorite shows can get them out there. I assume moving to LA is a must if you're not out there but would love tips from you, I know you started in improv scenes out there your self but any tips for someone wanting to be a writer. PS You need to go to Austin. Can't wait for more Archer you do an amazing job acting and the entire cast, hope this show continues to flourish.

They always sell out, so get tickets early, and I hope to see you there!

    Aisha,

I did not get a chance to see you Live on Larry King, but I did catch the show online, especially after reading some of the negative comments on your site, I had to hear it for myself. All I can say is "Consider the source" I thought that you were 'Right On' and keep up the good work for 'US' sane people.
    Love ya,
