.45

“.45” was a really low-budget independent film with a complex cast, and the director was able to do a lot with very little. Milla Jovovich stars at Kat, who sells handguns on the streets of New York City with her boyfriend Big Al (Angus MacFadyen). When Al beats Kat in a jealous rage, she looks for help in planning a vicious act of revenge. I play Liz, a social worker assigned to Kat’s case.

We shot this movie in Toronto, which remains one of my favorite cities in the world. It is such a clean, friendly place, and even if people recognize you, they never bother you, so you can just jam all over the city without worrying about being accosted. I’m a big Francophile (I speak French pretty fluently and love French culture and food), and I had a lot of down days on this film. I would walk everywhere, speaking terrible French to the locals (it was terrible to them, anyway—Canadian French is an entirely different animal), eating lots of awesome French Canadian food (Poutine, Cassoulet, Bostock—bring it!), and going to foreign film festivals. It’s here that I saw one of my favorite films of all time, “Oldboy.” I had a great experience on this picture.
