Ghost Wishperer
I played Andrea Moreno, who worked at Jennifer Love Hewitt’s character Melinda’s antique store. Andrea and Melinda became best friends, and Melinda eventually told Andrea about her ability to communicate with spirits. At the end of the season, Andrea died when an enormous plane crashed into her car, and Melinda helped her spirit cross over into the light. At least I went out with a bang!
Although I loved being on this show and working with Jennifer, one of my dreams has always been to act in more films and direct. I started getting opportunities to do so, and I couldn’t stay on the series and still pursue my other goals. When I had the opportunity to leave, as difficult as it was, I chose to follow my dreams. As a result, Andrea was killed off.
People were very sad when Andrea died—they still are. I get emails and online posts all the time asking why I left, or telling me how much they cried when they found out Andrea was dead. Even though Jennifer and I both knew my character was going to die, when we shot that scene, those were real tears we were crying. We were both so sad we weren’t going to work together anymore! We were like sisters. She is such a great person.
I had to spend a bunch of time with crazy “dead zombie girl” contact lenses in my eyes in the episode where I refused to cross over. That seems like it would be cool, but they were like 18 sizes too big for my eyeballs and it felt like someone was digging their thumbs into my eye sockets all day long. Not only that, but people ran away from me screaming at lunch time, which just hurt my feelings. I mean, really—the undead are people too!
